MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kerr announced this afternoon the addition of two defensemen to the Mayhem lineup for this weekend's three game home stand. Nick Grasso will rejoin the team, as he returns from his loan to the ECHL, and Eric Shand has been signed to a three-game contract.
Grasso, 28, rejoins the team after a 16-game stint in the ECHL with the Quad City Mallards and the Indy Fuel from January 7 through February 26. Of the 16 games, 14 came in a Quad City uniform, in which he tallied four assists and a plus-one rating. He was placed on ECHL waivers by the Mallards and was claimed by Indy - playing two games with them before being returned to Macon. In 19 total ECHL games this season, the native of Smithtown, NY has recorded five assists and a plus-two rating. With the Mayhem this season, Grasso has played 24 games - scoring four goals and 10 points with a plus-eight rating.
Shand, a 6-2, 205-pound defenseman from San Dimas, CA comes to Macon from the University of Wisconsin-Superior of the NCAA Division III level. At the University of Wisconsin-Superior, the 24-year-old played 112 games - scoring 16 goals and tallying 56 points. Shand served as the assistant captain of the team the past two seasons. He will be wearing #9 for the Mayhem this weekend.
The Mayhem play three home games this weekend, starting against the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday night at 7:35 PM.
