ROCKFORD, Ill. â The Rockford RiverHawks traded right-handed pitcher Jesen Merle to the Richmond Roosters for a player to be named later.
Rockford had been carrying 13 pitchers to begin the season but needed to make a roster move following Tuesday's trade for catcher Mike Lynch.
Merle appeared in three games this season for the âHawks. He was 1-0 and gave up four runs in 2 1/3 innings.
The 23-year-old was 3-2 last season with an ERA of 3.61 in a team-record 42 games with Rockford.
Merle had a brief stint with Edinburg of the Central League in 2003 and also won the College World Series in 2002 as a member of the Texas Longhorns.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season.
