Devin Williams Sets Franchise Record With 23 Rebounds

Newark, DE - December 12, 2017 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, took a late lead but couldn't hold on against the Delaware 87ers Tuesday, falling in Delaware 121-118.

Without Kadeem Allen and Jabari Bird, who have been transferred to the Boston Celtics as part of their Two-Way Contracts, the Red Claws (8-8) were led by Trey Davis, who scored 34 points on 13-30 shooting, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 10 assists. Devin Williams added a monster double-double, with 23 points (9-11 FG) and a franchise record 23 rebounds, eclipsing the old record of 20 rebounds, set by Chris Wright in the 2012-13 season. Daniel Dixon added 19 points in the loss, and Josh Adeyeye scored 17 off the bench.

Delaware (4-11) was led by Jacob Pullen, who scored 35 points on 11-18 shooting.

Davis started the game red hot, knocking in two straight three's and scoring Maine's first 8 points. Off of a Devin Williams block, Dixon knocked down a triple to give Maine an 11-4 lead. Davis continued the hot shooting, making 4 of his first 5 shots and scoring 14 of the Claws' first 17. James Webb got Delaware back into the game from deep, tying the game at 17. Delaware would go on a 16-2 run to take a 22-17 lead. Delaware took a 29-25 lead after 1.

In the 2nd, Williams' three-point play cut it to 33-32 early on. Marc Loving's slam gave Delaware a four-point advantage. Andrew White tied the game at 38, draining a jumper. White followed that up with a three, giving Maine a 43-42 lead. The Claws would extend to a 5 point lead, but the Sevens would come back off of two costly turnovers. Jacob Pullen heated up for the Sevens, pushing Delaware's lead to 61-52. Okafor's lay-in followed up by a Devin Robinson alley-oop slam made it 65-53. Josh Adeyeye ended the run with a corner three. At the half, the Red Claws trailed 65-56. Pullen scored 24 points in the first half. Maine shot 47% (21-45) from the floor, and 33% (6-18) from downtown. Delaware shot 53% (24-45) from the floor, and 57% (8-14) from three-point land.

Davis opened the 3rd quarter with a lay-up for his 20th point. Dixon scored 5 straight for Maine, but Okafor and Pullen had the answer on the other end. The teams would go back and forth, and Pullen's three-point play made it 78-68 Delaware. The Red Claws went on an 8-0 run late in the 3rd, cutting the deficit to 2 at 84-82. Drew Barham's three made it 86-85 after three.

Barham drained another three to tie the game at 88 early in the 4th. Adeyeye buried a three to give Maine a 97-95 lead. Another Barham 3 followed by a Williams putback gave Maine a 102-97 lead. Okafor's lay-up tied the game at 104 with 4:00 to go. Off a missed free throw, Pullen drained a deep three to put Delaware up 109-104, and a Webb corner three made it an 8 point lead. Davis stopped the bleeding, scoring 4 straight for Maine. Dixon made a three in the final minute to cut it to 3, and the Red Claws got the ball back with :28 left after a missed shot by Delaware. Out of the timeout, the Red Claws turned the ball over on the inbounds pass. The costly turnover turned into free throws for the Sevens. Maine then turned the ball over again out of a timeout, but the Red Claws weren't done. A Davis three followed by 2 missed free throws led to a Williams dunk, and it was 120-118 with 1 second left, but Pullen's free throws put it away for good.

The Red Claws wound up shooting 47% (44-93) from the floor, and 40% (17-42) from three. Maine went 13-16 from the free throw line. Delaware shot 49% (41-84) from the floor, 46% (11-24) from deep, and 28-33 from the charity stripe.

The Red Claws return to action Thursday night at the Expo against Fort Wayne. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU. Tickets are on sale now by calling 207-210-6655 or visiting MaineRedClaws.com.
