Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
Hidalgo, Texas, - The NBA G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers, affiliate of the Houston Rockets, came back and defeated Agua Caliente Clippers 117-112.
RJ Hunter scored 29 points for the Vipers. Chris Walker collected a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Tyrone Wallace scored 29 points for the Clippers.
There was not much to separate the two teams in the opening quarter. The Vipers were able to edge out the Clippers in the first quarter 31-29 behind RJ Hunter's 10 points.
Agua Caliente started setting the pace of the game in the second quarter. At one point, the Clippers held a 13-point lead over the Vipers. Tyrone Wallace was a big part of the Clippers' offense in the second quarter. As both teams headed to the locker room at halftime, the Vipers trailed the Clippers 59-66.
After an even third quarter, the Vipers entered the final quarter of the game trailing 84-90. With 1:16 left in the game, Monte Morris's jump shot tied the game at 110. A steal from Briante Weber led to Morris draining a three pointer for a RGV lead. Free throws from Weber, Chris Walker, and Tyler Lydon cemented the 117-112 win over the Clippers.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers will have little time to rest as they take on Austin Spurs on Friday night at Austin.
