
Warriors Drop Road Contest to the Suns

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (17-13) fell to the Northern Arizona Suns (13-15) 108-93 on Saturday night at the Prescott Valley Event Center .
Cam Jones led the Warriors with 17 points off the bench, while Scott Wood added 15 points. LaDontae Henton notched 13 points and Terrence Drisdom added 12 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
Xavier Silas led all scorers with his season-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Askia Booker finished with 19 points, while dishing out eight of Northern Arizona's 21 assists.
During Santa Cruz's last visit to Prescott Valley on Dec. 14, the Northern Arizona Suns were 10-1, good for the D-League's best mark. After being handed a loss by the visiting Warriors, the Suns entered tonight's game 2-14, including a 0-3 mark against Casey Hill's squad.
The opening frame was an even effort from both teams with the Warriors slightly edging the Suns in field goal percentage (40%-36%) and three-point percentage (29%-25%). Despite shooting the ball better, Santa Cruz would not take a lead in the first quarter.
The Warriors took the lead for the first time in the opening minute of the second quarter off a turnaround jumper from Chris Obekpa. The Suns would go on to outscore the Warriors 20-9 to lead by as many as 12 points to enter the break with a 55-45 advantage.
The Suns extended their lead in the second half, jumping out to a 20-point advantage over Santa Cruz. The Warriors would limit their deficit to single-digits in the opening minutes of the final quarter, but the Suns would respond by opening their lead to defeat the Warriors by 15 points.
Northern Arizona outrebounded the Warriors 52-35 with Derek Cooke Jr., pulling down 15 rebounds to go with his 13 points, powering the dominance on the boards for the hosts. Nine of Cooke's rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball.
