Tejeda Leads Woodies in Offensive Performance of the Year in Win

KINSTON, NC - Anderson Tejeda had a career day at the plate to lead the Woodies (29-21) in an 11-3 drubbing of the Keys (20-29) on an afternoon that featured two wins for the DEWDs. Tejeda hit two homers and drove in four to be the first in the Carolina League to the 40-RBI mark with 41.

Emerson Martinez also delivered a quality start with seven innings and no walks for his third win of the season. He struck out three and retired 10 of his last 11 batters.

Before the big win over the Keys, the Woodies had to finish their suspended game from Saturday night. Jacob Lemoine closed out the ninth inning to clinch a 4-1 win. For more on the game leading up to that point, click here.

Tejeda started red hot as he hit a shot to straightaway centerfield in the first inning for his first two-run blast of the afternoon. Down East has scored first in all three games of the series with Frederick and have not trailed at any point.

The DEWDs added another run in the third on an RBI single from Andretty Cordero. All nine batters in the lineup had a hit for the Wood Ducks. While the Keys would tie the game in the fourth with a four-run inning, the Woodies wasted little time responding.

Starting with the third inning, Down East scored in four consecutive frames. In the fourth, Josh Altmann led off with his seventh homer of the season - a solo blast to left. The streak was highlighted by a six-run fifth inning and Tejeda was at the center of it.

He sparked the rally with a two-run homer after a leadoff walk to Chuck Leblanc. Later in the frame, a wild pitch would score Cordero from third before Altmann drove home Brendon Davis with a single. Altmann would score on an Eric Jenkins single to right and push the lead to 9-3.

Just for good measure, Anthony Gose added an RBI single which was his first with the Wood Ducks. Back-to-back doubles (the first by Tejeda) in the sixth brought home the 11th run in the victory. It marked the fifth time this season the Woodies have reached double digits in the run column.

Down East remains in solo first place in the southern division with the pair of wins today coupled with a Buies Creek loss on Saturday. The Woodies look for their first-ever four-game sweep on Monday with a special Memorial Day first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Right-hander Edgar Arredondo (5-1, 2.32) will take the mound for the DEWDs against lefty Alex Wells (2-3, 3.99) for the Keys.
