Frederick Keys News Release
KINSTON, N.C.- The Frederick Keys (20-29) dropped both the suspended game from Saturday night and the regularly scheduled Sunday game to the Down East Wood Ducks (29-21). The final of the suspended game was 4-1 while the Wood Ducks won 11-4 in the originally scheduled game.
Picking up Saturday's game in the bottom of the eighth, Travis Seabrooke got out of a bases loaded jam with two strikeouts to keep the game 4-0 Wood Ducks. In the ninth, Jomar Reyes hit a two-run home run. Yojhan Quevedo then reached on an error, and Collin Woody singled. That brought up the tying run in Chris Clare, who was retired to end the game.
Steven Bruce (1-0) picked up the win for the Wood Ducks after firing six innings of shutout baseball. Ofelky Peralta (1-5) took the loss. He produced a quality start, allowing three runs on three hits in six innings.
In Sunday's original game, the Wood Ducks jumped out to an early lead on an Anderson Tejeda two-run home run in the first inning. They added a run in the third. Tejeda singled, and eventually came around to score on an Andretty Cordero single to make it 3-0.
The Keys would tie up the game in the fourth. Ryan McKenna and T.J. Nichting singled, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Preston Palmeiro then drove a double to right field to score both McKenna and Nichting. Wilson Garcia then reached on a fielder's choice, and Reyes singled. After a Woody single, Cole Billingsley tied up the game on a sacrifice fly when Eric Jenkins made a jumping catch over the short wall in left field. It tied the game at three.
In the bottom of the fourth, Down East broke the tie on a Josh Altmann home run. They then added six more runs in the fifth. Tejeda hit his second two-run home run of the game. Later, Cordero scored on a wild pitch, and Brendon Davis scored on an Altmann single. Altmann then scored on a Jenkins single, and Jenkins came around to score two batters later on an Anthony Gose base hit.
The score remained 11-3 until the ninth. Woody then launched his second home run of the year to left field, but that was as close as the Keys would get.
Emerson Martinez (3-4) picked up the win for the Wood Ducks. He fired seven innings and allowed three runs. Lucas Humpal (1-6) took the loss. The right-hander surrendered seven runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
The Keys and Wood Ducks wrap up their series tomorrow afternoon. Left-hander Alex Wells (2-3, 3.99) takes the mound for the Keys. He will be opposed by Edgar Arredondo (5-1, 2.32) for the Wood Ducks. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and can be heard on Frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
