Bristol State Liners News Release

The Bristol Pirates struggled in their series finale in Johnson City, as they ended the series with a split following a 15-5 loss to the Cardinals.

The Cardinals' 15 runs were the most allowed by Pirates pitchers since June 22, when Bristol allowed a season-high 19 runs to Elizabethton in their home opener.

The Pirates sent six pitchers to the mound in the loss, with John O'Reilly and Joe Jacques the only pitchers to not allow a run. Colin Selby earned his third loss of the season after allowing five runs on four hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings.

Jonah Davis led off the game with his ninth home run of the season for what would be his only hit of the night. The only other extra-base hit for Bristol came from Eddy Vizcaino, who doubled to lead off the eighth inning after entering the game as a defensive replacement for Davis. Francisco Mepris finished 1-for-4 with one RBI and his 11th steal of the season -- tying his career-high set in 2016.

The Pirates (25-28) have Wednesday off, as they prepare to travel to Burlington for a three-game series. Prior to the first game, the Pirates and Royals will complete their game from July 20 that was suspended due to rain in the top of the 10th inning. When the game resumes, Royals third baseman Brhet Bewley will be at bat with two outs and an 0-2 count, with catcher Freddy Fermin on first base.
