
Mudcats Bested by Diamond Jaxx, 7-4

ZEBULON, NC - The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (24-22) snapped the Carolina Mudcats (22-25) two-game winning streak on Thursday night with a 7-4 win at Five County Stadium.
Carolina scored first in the fourth inning when Mike Costanzo doubled off the centerfield wall to plate two runs and Brandon Yarborough followed a couple batters later with a line drive just inside the first base line to score Costanzo and give the Mudcats a short lived 3-0 lead.
The Diamond Jaxx responded the very next inning with a four spot against Mudcat starter Alexander Smit. Leury Bonilla led off the inning with a walk and Scott Savastano doubled to left to put a couple runners on base, Carolus Peguero then doubled to left to plate a pair of runs. But, the Diamond Jaxx were not done yet as Johan Limonta who homered over the right field wall for a two-run shot and capped a four run inning and after five West Tenn had a 4-3 lead.
West Tenn's lead grew in the in the seventh with a single run as Jose Yepez doubled and scored. The lead got even greater in the eighth with a pair of runs as Alex Liddi doubled home two to give West Tenn a 7-3 lead.
The Mudcats added a run in the eighth when Chris Denove scored on a Jose Castro groundout. In the ninth, the Mudcats got the tying run to the plate against Diamond Jaxx closer Josh Fields, but Dave Sappelt grounded into a game ending double play and West Tenn came away with a 7-4 win.
Carolina will continue their home stand on Friday night at 7:15 as the Mudcats send Scott Carroll to the hill while the Diamond Jaxx counter with Steven Hensley.
