Mobile, AL - In game two of a five-game series, the Mississippi Braves trailed 8-0 entering the 9th. The Braves began a two out rally that saw four runs score, but the final out was made on a base running mistake by Randy Gress after a base hit from Willie Cabrera.

With Mike Minor on the mound for Mississippi, the Braves gave up a pair of first inning runs. A wild pitch following a strikeout allowed Collin Cowgill to reach, which was followed by a walk. Konrad Schmidt then doubled in Cowgill and the next batter, Cyle Hankered, popped a sac fly to score Kory Casto and make the score 2-0, Mobile.

Minor, the Southern League strikeout leader, K'd eight batters which ran his total to 80 for the season. Minor gave up three runs in the 5th inning, which started with a Jake Elmore single. In an attempt to pick off Elmore, Minor threw wild to first, which allowed Elmore to reach third on a two base error. Ollie Linton then walked and the pitcher, Josh Collmenter, bunted his way onto first and scored Elmore. With two runners on, Collin Cowgill doubled and drove both in to make the score 5-0.

In the 6th, Taylor Harbin hit a two run home run to make the score 7-0. The final BayBear run came in the 8th, as Ollie Linton singled in Konrad Schmidt to give the BayBears their final tally. Mobile led 8-0 going to the 9th.

In the top of the 9th, Mississippi led off with a fly out from Eric Duncan. The next batter, Mauro Gomez, singled to start the rally. With a runner at first, Cody Johson flied out to center field and the Braves had one runner at first with two outs. Orlando Mercado then singled to put runners at first and second. Alejandro was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Juan Gonzalez then walked to score a run. With the score, 8-1 and the bases loaded, Randy Gress drove in two runs on a single to make the score 8-3 with runners at first and second. Antuan Richardson put a ground ball in play to second and the ball took a bad hop and everybody was safe. The bases were loaded for Willie Cabrera. Cabrera singled to right field which score Gonzalez easily, but the runner behind Gonzalez was Gress, who thought the ball Cabrera hit was caught in right field to end the game. Gress put his head down and started walking off the field, by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late. The throw went to the plate, Gress was bewildered, was caught in a run down and tagged out.

The bizarre play ended the game with the tying run due up next at the plate. The comeback effort seemed prematurely over and the Braves never got the shot they wanted with Eric Duncan due up next. Altogether, Mississippi sent nine men to the plate and six after the second out was made. Final score, Mobile 8, Mississippi 4.

Tomorrow is game three of the series and the Braves will pitch RHP Jacob Thompson (2-3; 6.37) vs. LHP Pat McAnaney (1-4; 5.85). First pitch is at 7:05 at Hank Aaron Stadium.
