FREDERICK, MD- The Lynchburg Hillcats (26-25) used a pair of home runs to defeat the Frederick Keys (23-30) on Friday night at Nymeo Field. All four runs for the Hillcats were scored on the long balls, and the loss ended the Keys three game winning streak.
It was a scoreless game until the fourth inning. With one out, Trenton Brooks launched his first home run of the year to right field to give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead.
That is how the score would stand until another homer extend the Hillcats lead. In the eighth, Mitch Longo singled and Jorma Rodriguez walked to put two men on for Conner Capel. Capel then hit his fourth home run of the year to push the score to 4-0.
In the contest, the Keys collected just four hits and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Hillcats would finish 1-for-3 in the same category, with the lone hit being the Capel home run.
Cristian Alvarado (5-4) completed seven innings for the second straight game but took the loss. The only run he allowed was the Brooks home run. He scattered five hits while striking out five and did not walk a batter.
Eli Morgan (2-0) earned his second straight victory for the Hillcats. The right-hander completed 6.1 innings and allowed three hits. He struck out six and walked one. Dalbert Siri earned his second save of the year, pitching the final 2.2 innings and allowing just one hit.
The Keys and Hillcats continue their series on Saturday night. Right-hander Ofelky Peralta (1-5, 6.00) makes the start for the orange and black. He will be opposed by right-hander Justin Garza (2-2, 2.43). First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
