Akron RubberDucks News Release

Erie's Josh Lester cracked an RBI single in the first inning, and three Erie pitchers combined on a three-hitter, as the SeaWolves edged the Akron RubberDucks, 1-0, Friday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.

Turning Point

The SeaWolves (20-33) scored the only run of the game in the first inning off Shao-Ching Chiang (5-2). Will Maddox doubled to right with one out, and Lester drove him in with a two-out single to make it 1-0.

Mound Presence

Chiang went seven innings and allowed no more runs. He scattered five hits and struck out three. He issued no walks and retired 11 Erie hitters in a rwo at one point. Jordan Milbrath came out of the pen for the RubberDucks (31-24) in eighth inning and fired two perfect innings with three strikeouts.

Duck Tales

The Ducks had runners on first and third in the fourth inning after Sam Haggerty reached on an error and Andrew Calica on a single, but Erie lefty Liarvis Breto induced a double-play grounder from Joe Sever. Breto, making his Double-A debut, allowed just two hits over 4.2 innings. Mark Mathias had a lead-off single in the fifth but was stranded. Sever singled with two outs in the ninth, but closer John Schreiber fanned Bobby Bradley to end the game and secure the whitewash.
