Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, IA - The pitching staff of the Quad Cities River Bandits racked up 14 strikeouts on their way to recording their 17th shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over the Peoria Chiefs at Modern Woodmen Park on Sunday evening. The Bandits have struck out 28 batters in the first 18.0 innings of the series.
The Bandits broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jonathan Lacroix opened the inning with a base hit and the next hitter, Scott Schreiber, smashed a bouncer toward second baseman Wood Myers. It appeared to be a double play in the making, but the ball caromed off the foot of base umpire Taylor Payne, resulting in the ball being ruled dead and both runners advancing to the next base. With runners on first and second, Chandler Taylor bounced an RBI double down the first base line that scored Lacroix for the only run of the game.
Chad Donato was brilliant for the second outing in a row. The right-hander tossed 7.0 scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters, surrendering just one hit. He has worked 14.0 straight scoreless innings over his last two starts. Hansel Paulino finished off the game's final 2.0 innings to record his first save of the season.
The River Bandits managed five hits against Peoria's two. Lacroix, who finished with two hits, was the only player on either side with more than one.
The River Bandits (31-25, 71-55) finish off a three-game series with the Chiefs (32-22, 71-53) on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Bryan Abreu (4-0, 0.34) will pitch in the finale for the Bandits against a pitcher to be announced for Peoria.
All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
