Corpus Christi Set to Begin Playoff Run

June 24, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release

The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (6-8) begin the second season this Saturday night in Little Rock, AR when they take on the Arkansas Diamonds (11-3), in the opening round of the IFL playoffs.

The Hammerheads lost both regular season meetings with the Diamonds by a combined score of 61 - 39. In those two losses the Hammerheads averaged 4.5 turnovers and 83.5 yards in penalties per game. Those numbers will have to change for Corpus Christi to pull off a first round upset.

"We have to eliminate our mistakes and play four quarters of football this week", said Head Coach Stephen Fillmore. "They're a good team, but I don't feel we've played our best game against them yet".

One other challenge the Hammerheads will have face is the possibility of being shorthanded due to injuries. Last week DB's Henry Hall and Rueben Flowers left the game due to injuries they sustained during the game. LB Joe Small did not play due to a jaw injury while lineman Myqual Spann has been nursing a sore left arm and shoulder.

"We hope everyone will be able to go this week", said Offensive Coordinator Schuyler Anderson. "A couple of guys may be game time decisions".

If the Hammerheads win this week they would most likely play the defending IFL champion Billings Outlaws in the first ever meeting between the IFL franchises.

Kickoff for Saturday is set for 7:05pm. Fans can follow the action on ESPN Corpus Christi, (1230AM, 96.1FM and 103.3FM), with Scott Howe. The radio broadcast begins at 6:40pm.
