
Bucks to host the Beaumont Drillers

Houma, LaâThe Atlantic Southern Division leading Bayou Bucks (8-2) will return to the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center this Saturday to play host to the (7-4) Beaumont Drillers. This game takes on added significance because the Drillers are only 1.5 games behind the Bucks in the Atlantic Southern Division standings.
Houma heads into the contest coming off a 60-58 victory against the Tupelo FireAnts on May 28. The Bucks posted a franchise record 276 yards of total offense against the Ants. Leading the way for Houma was quarterback Doug Coleman, who threw for 6 touchdowns and rushed for 1 score.
The Drillers will travel to Houma after defeating the Utah Warriors 84-77 in overtime. Beaumont posted 285 yards of offense under the direction of signal caller and former Texas Tech Red Raider Mike Saldana who completed 18 of 29 passes for 259 yards and 7 touchdowns. Saldana also rushed for 2 scores.
On defense for the Drillers, converted receiver Jacobi Austin recorded 5.5 tackles and 1 sack. In addition, Louisiana native Randy Chappell and former Grambling Tiger Troy Esprit each intercepted passes from Utah quarterback Doug Smith.
When asked about the upcoming game with Beaumont, Bucks head coach Jack Phillips responded, "These two team are no strangers to each other. We have to play smart football." Phillips went on to add, "Beaumont has really been a team with momentum the past couple of weeks. That is a credit to their players, coaches, and staff."
Tickets for the game this Saturday are still available and can be purchased at any Ticketmaster location.
The Bayou Bucks are also offering "Fun Four Packs." With the purchase of these packages, one will receive 4 tickets to the game, 4 drinks, and 4 hotdogs for $40.00. Fans should act fast because supplies are limited.
HEARD AMONG NIFL'S BEST RECIEVERS
Third year Houma receiver Kevin Heard ranks among the best in the National Indoor Football League. On 60 catches, Heard has amassed 973 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Bayou Bucks Notes:
This Saturday's contest will mark the seventh time the Bucks have played the Drillers franchise since 2002. Each team has won 3 games.
The defense for the Drillers is rated fourth in the NIFL. Thus far this season Beaumont has given up an average of 177.7 yards per game.
Cox Sports Television will broadcast the this week's Bayou Bucks game as well as all Bucks home games on a tape delayed basis. The game against Beaumont will air on Sunday June 13 at 2:30 p.m.
