Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

Albany, GA.-The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings fell to the South Georgia Wildcats 63-56 Saturday night in Albany, Georgia in front of 5,006 rowdy fans. Wildcats KR Ivory McCann started the game with a 56 yard touchdown return to give South Georgia a 7-0 lead, but the BattleWings quickly responded with a 24 yard touchdown strike from QB Andrico Hines to P.J. Berry to tie the game at 7-7. The two teams continued trading scores with each team scoring touchdowns on every offensive possession as the 1st half ended with the Wildcats leading 49-42. Wings' FB Jason Schule scored twice in the first half and became only the fourth player in af2 history with 1,000 career rushing yards as he collected 79 rushing yards on 11 carries.

The defenses settled down in the second half as each team forced a defensive stop to begin the 3rd quarter. The BattleWings were stopped first after an Ivory McCann interception, but they responded with two defensive stops of their own and shut-out the Wildcats in the 3rd quarter and took a 56-49 lead into the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, the Wildcats returned the favor in the 4th quarter and shut-out the BattleWings while scoring 14 points to give them a 63-56 lead with seconds remaining in the game. The BattleWings were in position to tie the game, but a questionable intentional grounding call and an errant pass on 4th down derailed the Wings' comeback efforts.

With the loss, the BattleWings fall to 4-5 on the season while the South Georgia Wildcats move their record to 8-2.

The BattleWings will return home to the CenturyTel Center next week (June 6) to host Southwest Division rival Corpus Christi Sharks on Faith and Family Night.
