October 7, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - For the second consecutive season the Milwaukee Admirals will present the "Hunt for Pink October," where the team will promote cancer awareness at their first four games of the year.
Highlighting the events will be the team's game on Saturday, October 25th where $2 from each ticket sold will be donated to Gilda's Club of Southeastern Wisconsin, a cancer support community founded in memory of comedian Gilda Radner. The Admirals will also raise funds for Gilda's Club through the sales of pink Admirals sweatshirts and the player's game-worn home helmets which will feature the symbolic pink breast cancer ribbons during October.
"We are honored to be able to team up with Gilda's Club this year to once again help raise awareness for all of those affected by cancer," said Admirals President Jon Greenberg. "Throughout the greater Milwaukee area neighbors, friends, and family are confronting cancer's impact each day. Gilda's Club is unique because of the environment in which they offer support and we want to help raise money and awareness for their mission."
The Admirals game helmets will be available for bid throughout the month at games and by phone with the final bids coming at the end of the second intermission of the game on October 31st and then autographed by the players afterward. The silent auction will begin on Saturday, October 18th at 6 pm at the Digicopy Information table located outside of section 225 at the Bradley Center. There will also be one team autographed helmet that will be raffled off, with the proceeds benefiting Gilda's Club.
"We are so grateful to the Milwaukee Admirals for this opportunity to provide personal empowerment for men, women and children living with cancer in southeastern Wisconsin," said Gilda's Club Executive Director, Trish Haudricourt
The pink sweatshirts will be available for just $25, $15 off the regular price, and $5 from each sweatshirt will be donated to Gilda's Club. Fans can purchase the pink sweatshirts in person at the Admirals office, located at 510 W. Kilbourn Ave or via phone at (414) 227-0550.
In addition, the Bradley Center Ice will be emblazoned with 20-foot pink ribbons at the beginning of each attacking zone for all four October games.
