Rochester Red Wings News Release

Jose Berrios allowed just one hit over seven strong innings, leading the Red Wings to a 3-0 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox Tuesday night at Frontier Field. The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Wings, who remain one game behind first place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The series wraps up with a 1:35 p.m. matinee Thursday afternoon. Complete promotions details below....

Berrios made his 11th start of the season for Rochester, while Justin Haley made his third for Pawtucket. The pitchers cruised through the first inning, each retiring the first three batters they faced. Kennys Vargas got the first hit of the game on a swinging bunt to short to lead off the bottom of the second.

The Wings loaded the bases in the second and were able to cash in for the first two runs of the game. In addition to Vargas's single, Tommy Field and Logan Schafer walked to fill them up. John Ryan Murphy drove Vargas and Field in on a two-out, 3-2 single to give Rochester a 2-0 lead. Haley was forced to work in the frame, throwing 33 pitches to give him 43 total through the first two innings.

After Vargas walked to start the bottom of the third, Eddie Rosario snapped an 0-for-22 drought with a line-drive single into right field. Field, the next batter, singled to load the bases for the second consecutive inning. The Wings were unable to take advantage, however, as Buck Britton struck out to end the inning.

Berrios set down the first nine batters he faced before Brock Holt, in Triple-A on a rehab assignment, walked to begin the fourth. Chris Marrero was hit by a pitch three batters later, followed by a Jantzen Witte walk to load the bases with two outs. Berrios got out of the jam unscathed when he struck out Aneury Tavarez on an outside pitch to end the inning.

Miguel Sano led off the fifth inning with his second home run in two days to extend the lead to 3-0.

Haley's night concluded after five innings, as he was relieved by left-hander Robby Scott. He allowed six hits, three runs (all earned), with three strikeouts and three walks.

Berrios' no-hit bid ended with one out in the seventh inning, when Witte lined a double down the left field line. Berrios then struck out Tavarez and got Rusney Castillo to ground out to short, stranding Witte at second.

Right-hander Marcus Walden entered the game at the top of the eighth. Berrios (7-3) surrendered just one hit, struck out six and walked two, throwing 96 pitches and 64 strikes. Walden set down the side in the eighth.

Trevor May worked the ninth inning as part of his rehab assignment from the Twins. May struck out the first two batters he faced, and a pop out ended the game. May recorded his first save.

NOTES: Twins INF/OF Miguel Sano played his fifth game of a rehab assignment, playing third base and going 1-for-4 at the plate with the homer and two strikeouts.
