Bloomington Thunder News Release

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin - A close nit game resulted in a 4-1 win for the United States National Team Development Program Under 18's over the Bloomington Thunder in Saturday afternoon's preseason contest. Bloomington saw their undefeated preseason come to an end, while the NTDP picked up their first win of the preseason.

Team USA had not played a preseason game in 2015-16, but was able to hop on the board only 1:21 into the period. William Lockwood (University of Michigan) parked in front of the net and tipped the shot from the point just under the crossbar to make it 1-0.

Blake Gober tied it up later in the period after a long pass from Cameron Spicer (University of Maine) cleared the zone. Gober stepped in over the line on a 2 on 1 with Patrick Curry and toe dragged around the defender. His shot was fired on right side of the net at 8:09 of the period to tie the game.

Despite the loss, Logan Halladay (University of Minnesota) came up with a big game making another 28 saves and a few huge ones to keep the Thunder in it. During the second period one save on Nick Pastujov (University of Michigan) helped keep the game tied. Pastujov found himself on the back door for an uncontested one-timer on the power play and Halladay stuffed him with his pad.

Jake Oettinger (Boston University) also turned in a huge game. On one occasion, he made two saves on Logan Lambdin and Sean Harrison (Union College) who eventually pushed the puck just wide of the net. Oettinger made 29 saves in his first appearance of the preseason.

Both teams traded shots off the cross bar in the third period, but one eventually found it's way to the net for Team USA. At 5:33 Clayton Keller (Boston University) pulled off a no look pass from behind the net and Kieffer Bellows (Boston University) scored the eventual game-winning goal.

Bloomington fought hard in the remaining 14 minutes, but were unable to tie the game. Team USA finished the afternoon with two empty netters in the last two minutes to end the game at 4-1.

Oettinger and Halladay stuffed their opponents on multiple power play chances as Bloomington went 0-7 and USA was 0-4 on the man advantage. Bloomington falls to 2-1-0 in the preseason and will face the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Sunday at 1 p.m.
