Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Scrappers held a 1-0 lead going into the top of the third, but it didn't last.

State College boosted to a 9-2 win on Tuesday night at Eastwood Field. Much of the offense was from RJ Dennard, who hit two two-run home runs, and finished with four runs driven in.

The Scrappers lone run came in the bottom of the first on an RBI double for Daniel Salters to score Willi Castro.

Jesse Jenner was hit by a pitch to start the third, and then Dennard smashed his first home run of the season to right to make it 2-1 State College. The Spikes never looked back.

They got another in the fourth when Michael Massi was hit by a pitch to score Casey Grayson. Grayson led off the inning with a walk. The Spikes had the bases loaded, and Scrappers' starter Micah Miniard never allowed a hit in the inning.

In the fifth, Michael Pritchard doubled and later scored on an RBI single for Orlando Olivera.

Mahoning Valley found a run in the fifth on a ground out for Castro to score Gabriel Mejia.

The Spikes added two more in the seventh, and then put up three against Ryan Perez in the ninth.

Cole Lankford grounded out to score Craig Aikin, and then Dennard hit his second home run of the game.

Mahoning Valley finishes the season 1-8 against State College. Miniard earned his first loss of the season after going five innings and giving up four earned runs on five hits. Dailyn Martinez went six innings and gave up seven hits, but just one earned run.

Mahoning Valley makes its final road trip of the season on Wednesday for three in Auburn with the Doubledays. First pitch is set for 7:05. Matt Esparza makes his second start of the season for the Scrappers.
