Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (26-17), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (19-24), 107-78, in front of 3,372 at the Memorial Civic Center on Friday night. The victory is Canton's 12th in their last 15 games and gives their current top Wild Card playoff spot in the East a 2.5 game cushion over the second with seven games to play.

The Charge came out hot to start the game, hitting 11 of their 22 attempts in the first (50%) with seven of eight players who saw the floor getting into the scoring column. Canton's Alex Kirk found a rhythm in hitting 5-of-6 shots from the field and scoring 11 points in the opening frame as the Charge took a 31-21 lead.

The hosts increased their advantage to as many as 26 in the second while maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the entire quarter. Canton locked Grand Rapids down defensively to allow just five field goals on 18 attempts (28%) while forcing eight turnovers in the second that resulted in 11 points. The Charge used that strong defensive quarter to hold a 60-36 lead at the half.

Canton never led by less than 21 points throughout the second half en route to winning the season series over Grand Rapids, 2-1. Jorge Gutierrez had his second double-double in as many games with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 23 minutes. James Singleton also posted a double-double with 11 points, 12 boards, two steals, and two blocks in 32 minutes.

Cleveland Cavaliers assignment Joe Harris netted 10 points with four rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes for the Charge. Brandon Paul added 11 points and three steals in 18 minutes off the bench, while Antoine Agudio supplied 11 points in 24 minutes. Canton's four straight wins match their longest winning streak of the season, when they also notched four in a row January 31st to February 7th.

Grand Rapids' newly acquired guard Nate Wolters scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, with six rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Reserve Diante Garrett scored 12 points in 23 minutes of relief. Kelsey Barlow added 12 points of his own, with five rebounds and four steals in a team-high 43 minutes of action.
