Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs forwards T.J. Hensick and Charles Hudon scored less than six minutes apart early in the second period to give Hamilton a 2-1 lead, but the 'Dogs (28-23-9-0) couldn't hold on from there and ultimately fell 3-2 to the Utica Comets (34-18-5-1) on Saturday evening at FirstOntario Centre.
Utica forward Cal O'Reilly opened the scoring at 8:22 of the first period when he took a cross-crease pass from forward Sven Baertschi and beat a sprawling Hamilton goaltender Mike Condon. Defenceman Alex Biega had a second assist on the play.
Just 18 seconds into the second period, Bulldogs forward Eric Tangradi fed forward T.J. Hensick on a two-on-one and Hensick buried his 16th goal of the season to tie the game, 1-1. Forward Drayson Bowman had a second assist.
At 6:04 of the middle frame, Hamilton forward Sven Andrighetto found forward Charles Hudon alone in the slot and Hudon ripped home his 13th goal of the season to give his club a 2-1 lead. Defenceman Morgan Ellis had the second helper. With the goal, Hudon became the first Bulldog to record 50 points in a season since forward Aaron Palushaj in 2010-11.
Comets forward Will Acton tied the game 2-2 at 11:12 of the second period, assisted by Baertschi and forward Brandon DeFazio.
At 7:24 of the third period, Utica forward Alex Friesen notched the game-winning goal when he squeaked a wrist shot through Condon's legs. The 3-2 goal was assisted by defenceman Andrey Pedan and goaltender Joacim Eriksson.
Condon made 23 saves on 26 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while Eriksson stopped 21 of 23 shots faced for the Comets in the win.
Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
