Paul Pushes Canton Past Fort Wayne

The Canton Charge (21-16), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, topped the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (22-15), 88-79, in front of 3,889 on Friday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. Canton's win evened the season series at one win apiece for the former divisional foes.

Coming off of a season-high 37 points at Delaware, Brandon Paul provided another standout performance of 26 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from distance and a perfect 8-of-8 at the charity stripe. Paul scored 24 of his 26 points in the second half. Charge forward Arinze Onuaku posted his 24th double-double of the season with a blue collar performance consisting of 11 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in 40 minutes. Charge guard Antoine Agudio added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Fort Wayne was paced by reserve CJ Fair's 21 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Andre Emmett, the league's fourth leading scorer, was held to 18 points for the visitors on 6-of-17 shooting in 39 minutes on the floor. Gary Talton added 13 points and four steals in 32 minutes for the Mad Ants.

Fort Wayne entered the fourth quarter clinging to a 61-59 lead before being outscored by Canton 29-18 in the fourth stanza amidst five lead changes and two ties. Trailing 75-74 at the 5:01 mark in the fourth, Canton's defense held Fort Wayne scoreless in an 8-0 run until 32.5 remaining to put the game away. Paul led Canton with 17 of the team's 29 points in the fourth quarter. Canton and their top scoring defense (96.9 ppg) in the D-League are now 17-4 when holding opponents under 100 points.
