OKLAHOMA CITY, Feb. 22, 2015 - The Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Texas Legends, 95-82, on Sunday at the COX Convention Center. Texas' 82 points are the fewest Oklahoma City has allowed this season.
Six Blue players scored in double figures, led by Semaj Christon's 19 points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals. Maurice Sutton tallied 17 points, 10 boards, two assists and two blocks. Entering the weekend with a previous career high of 16 points, Sutton combined for 39 points on 19-of-20 shooting.
Marquis Teague produced 15 points, five assists and three rebounds and Talib Zanna scored 12 points with seven rebounds. Josh Huestis added 11 points and three boards while Chris Singleton led the bench's efforts with 12 points and eight rebounds.
"Defense was definitely an emphasis for us coming out of the All-Star break," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "We've been working to get back to that identity. I thought we did a good job of that tonight and a good of that this week. We've had more opportunities to practice this week and that helped us tighten it up. I'm pleased with how we played this week."
Oklahoma City went 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) in the opening quarter to take a 25-18 lead over its Southwest Division foe. The Blue limited Texas to 13 points on 5-of-18 shooting (27.8 percent) in the second quarter to boast a 43-31 lead at the half. The Legends' 13 second-quarter points are the fewest scored in a period by a Blue opponent this season.
The Blue used an 11-5 run in the final two minutes of the third quarter to build a 77-55 lead heading into the fourth. The Legends fought back with a 12-2 stretch to begin the final frame and trimmed the Blue's lead to as little as five with 2:33 remaining. Oklahoma City's defense held the Legends to 0-of-5 shooting and zero points in the final two minutes as the Blue outscored Texas 6-0 to seal the win.
The Blue (20-15) has now held its opponents to under 100 points in all three games since the All-Star break.
Texas (16-17) was led by Renaldo Balkman with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
