February 20, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (19-15), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, overcame a 18-point first quarter deficit to defeat the Erie BayHawks (13-20), 101-98. Canton has won all five meetings between the two teams this season and 12 of the last 13 matchups dating back to the start of last season.

Erie raced ahead for a 34-16 first quarter lead thanks to a blistering 15-of-21 team shooting effort (71%), including 12 points from guard Seth Curry. Arinze Onuaku kept Canton in the game with nine early points inside on 4-of-5 attempts despite seven team turnovers that resulted in eleven points.

The Charge responded in first 5:35 of the second quarter by rolling off an 18-4 run, including 16 bench points, to pull within 38-34. The BayHawks staved off Canton the remainder of the half and when up 49-48, they initiated a 9-0 run in final 1:24 of half to keep a 58-48 advantage at intermission.

Canton came out of the break again hot, outscoring Erie 16-2 to start the third, taking their first lead of the game and then pulling ahead 64-60. After five quick lead changes, the Charge ultimately held the hosts to just 12 points in the period, using their perimeter defense to limit the BayHawks to 5-of-24 shooting (21%) and take a 75-70 lead into the final quarter.

The Charge led for the entire duration of the fourth quarter, sealing the deal by hitting 11-of-13 attempts from the free-throw line down the stretch. Canton responded on nine separate occasions that the BayHawks got within one possession and when Erie got within one at 99-98 on a Curry triple with 5.2 seconds left, the Charge's conversions at the charity stripe solidified the victory.

Onuaku finished with his 22nd double-double of the year, the second-most in the D-League, by netting 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting with 12 boards and two steals in 33 minutes. Brandon Paul netted 15 points with six boards in 25 minutes. Alex Kirk added 15 points and three blocks in 21 minutes. Canton's bench supplied 47 points, with all four reserves who saw action scoring in double figures.

Curry finished with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting and two steals in 37 minutes to lead Erie. Austin Daye added 15 points and five rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench. Orlando Magic assignment Devin Marble scored nine points and grabbed five boards in 30 minutes of action.

Canton will finish the weekend pair of road games with their first-ever visit to the Grand Rapids Drive (Detroit Pistons affiliate) on Saturday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. The Charge are back at home on Friday, February 27th when they host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for Faith and Fellowship Night!
