Charge Fall to Atlantic-Best Red Claws

The Canton Charge (14-14), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell to the Maine Red Claws (18-8), 104-92, Friday night in front of 3,243 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. Maine currently leads the Atlantic Division, with the Charge following them for second place at a little over halfway through the season.

The Charge jumped out to an early 24-22 after one quarter of play behind a strong performance by Arinze Onuaku, who posted eight points and three rebounds on four-of-five shooting from the field. Maine's activity on defense forced seven Charge turnovers early on that resulted in 13 points for the visitors.

Maine took control in the second quarter as they assisted on 8-of-9 made baskets en route to outscoring Canton 27-16. Boston Celtics' assignment Andre Dawkins posted 14 first half points, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Red Claws guard Jason Calliste chipped in 13 first half points on 5-of-6 shooting. Despite trailing, Canton outshot Maine 49% to 41% in the first 24 minutes.

Facing their largest deficit of the night at 70-57 with 3:20 left in the third, Canton rolled off an 11-3 run, with six points from James Singleton, to pull within 73-68 heading into the fourth. Canton spread the ball around well in the third quarter, assisting on five of eight baskets. Cavaliers assignment Joe Harris helped keep Canton in the game with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting in the third stanza.

Despite a push from Canton in the third quarter, Maine responded by shooting 61% in the fourth to maintain their advantage that they first established at the 11:28 mark of the second quarter. Guard Tim Frazier finished with the sixth triple-double in Red Claws' history with 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a game-high 41 minutes. Dawkins finished with 27 points in 39 minutes. Maine outrebounded Canton 43-32 on the night.

Canton's Onuaku posted his 18th double-double of the season, second-most in the league, with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 33 minutes. Cavaliers' assignment Joe Harris hit 9-of-13 shots for season-high 26 points with a block and a steal in 29 minutes of action. Antoine Agudio and Chris Crawford each added 10 points for Canton, while James Singleton scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in his season debut.
