DES MOINES, IA - Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson recorded three assists and Kris Oldham let in one goal all weekend long stopping 27 of 28 on the night as the Omaha Lancers defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 2,463 fans at Buccaneer Arena. The win was the third in a row for Omaha.
On Teddy Bear Toss Night, it was Mark Petaccio who scored for Des Moines to trigger the toss. The rush down the ice was started by Joe Widmar who took the puck down the left wing wall and sent the puck across the low slot through the top of the crease right to a charging Mark Petaccio who fired in his 9th goal of the year at 9:14 of the opening period for a 1-0 lead. Assists were picked up by Widmar on the pass and Alec Rauhauser with the secondary helper.
Omaha threw a puck to the net from an awkward angle and evened the score up at a goal apiece. Late in the first period, Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson moved through the top of the offensive zone circles and let a shot go that went behind the net. Steven Spinner went after the puck and quickly turned, firing it towards the net from an off angle. The puck banked into the net and Omaha tied the game 1-1 with only 4:07 left in the first period. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson was awarded the lone assist.
In the second period Omaha put a pair of goals on the scoreboard for a two goal lead after 40 minutes of action. Right off a faceoff win by Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson to Jake Henderson who tapped it right out to Jimmy Schuldt. The captain let a shot go through traffic that found a way into the back of the net to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead just 2:07 into the middle frame. Henderson and Forsbacka-Karlsson with the assists on the go-ahead goal.
Omaha's second goal of the period came off a great give-and-go play by Jake Henderson and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson to provide the Lancers a two goal lead midway through the period. Henderson tapped the puck to Forsbacka-Karlsson in the right wing circle, Forsbacka-Karlsson returned the pass in the slot and Henderson lifted it over goaltender Ryan Ruck to make it a 3-1 lead for Omaha with 8:30 to go in the period.
While on the penalty-kill and the Des Moines goaltender Ryan Ruck pulled for the extra attacker late in regulation, Louie Rowe took a shot from center ice and scored an empty net goal with 2:04 left in the game for a 4-1 lead.
Kris Oldham stopped 27 of 28 shots on the night and let only one goal go in all weekend long.
