BayHawks Fall to Mad Ants for First Loss of Season

Erie BayHawks News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - Despite Seth Curry's season high 27 points, the BayHawks fell for the first time this season to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 103-93. Fort Wayne guard Andre Emmett went 10-14 to lead all scorers with 28 points.

Erie played a consistent first quarter as they went 9-15 from the floor and forced eight turnovers that led to 12 points. Curry did most of his work early on, scoring 15 in the period as the BayHawks held their biggest lead of the game at six points. The Mad Ants answered right back, which seemed to be the theme of the game as Erie held a one point lead at the end of the first.

Fort Wayne took advantage of Erie's lowest second quarter scoring total of the season (18) as seven different Mad Ants hit field goals. A Glen Rice, Jr. three to beat the buzzer capped off an 11-0 Mad Ants run to go into the half up 51-43 behind Emmett's 14 points.

The BayHawks trailed by double figures for most of the second half and failed to make a needed run. Erie narrowed the gap by nine with under a minute left in the third but Fort Wayne's 4-0 in the final 60 seconds put the BayHawks in a hole heading into the fourth.

Erie's Mike Schachtner came off the bench and kept the game interesting while hitting three field goals in the first three minutes of the fourth. C.J. Fair wasn't going to led the BayHawks have a weekend sweep as he answered with three field goals of his own. Fort Wayne never gave Erie hope the next nine minutes as they went on to win by ten. This was the first time the BayHawks gave up triple-digit points this season.

Schachtner came off the bench and had the second most points of any BayHawk at 16 thanks to a strong second half. Jarvis Williams tallied 13 points for his third straight double-digit game. Fort Wayne had five different double-digit scorers including C.J. Fair (18) and Adreian Payne (17).

The BayHawks head back on the road to face the Canton Charge on Friday and then travel to Westchester to play the Knicks, the NBA Development League's newest franchise.
