Somerset Beats Lancaster 8-3

Lancaster, PA - The Somerset Patriots (37-20) snapped their three game losing streaking by beating the Lancaster Barnstormers (30-28) 8-3 Wednesday evening from Clipper Magazine Stadium in front of 3,584 fans. The Barnstormers snapped their four game winning streak.

In the top of the second inning second baseman Jeff Baisley clubbed a two run home run (2) to left field to give the Patriots an early 2-0 lead.

In the ensuing half inning designated hitter Austin Gallagher poked a RBI single to center field to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Somerset scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Center field Jonny Tucker slapped a RBI double. Left fielder Aharon Eggleston tallied a RBI single and third baseman Corey Smith hammered a two run home run (10) to left field.

Lancaster plated a pair of runs with two outs in the seventh inning as shortstop Olmo Rosario pounded a RBI triple and left fielder Blake Gailen legged out an infield RBI single to make the score 6-3.

The Patriots tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning on a fielding error by first baseman Travis Denker to make the score 8-3 which would be the final score.

Graham Taylor (5-2) earned the win tossing 6.2 innings while giving up three runs in a quality start. Brian Grening (4-4) suffered the loss lasting five innings while surrendering six earned runs.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 24th when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. The game features Bark in the Park Night where all fans are allowed to bring their dog to the ballpark.
