York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution rallied for six runs in their last at-bat and brought the winning run to the plate, but their monumental comeback efforts fell just short losing 9-7 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday evening in front of 4,254 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs have lost three straight and four of five in their split six-game home-and-home series against Southern Maryland, and will look to salvage the finale on Thursday evening.

The six-run ninth matched the biggest ninth inning outburst in Revolution history. Down 9-1 with only five hits all evening, the Revs used eight hits against three different Blue Crab relievers in the big inning to reach the cusp of pulling off their greatest comeback ever.

Reliever Kyle Zaleski was given a rude greeting as Andy Marte drove the first pitch out to left-center for a leadoff home run. Mark Teahen then picked up his first Revolution hit with a double off the base of the Arch Nemesis in left. Manny Mayorson ripped an RBI double down the third base line to plate Teahen and scored with one out when Ruddy Yan singled to right. James Shanks then singled to left to continue the rally, forcing Zaleski's departure. Eric Patterson cranked an RBI double off the right field wall against reliever Eduardo Morlan, his only batter faced, making it a save situation. Closer Jim Ed Warden struck out Wilson Batista for the second out of the inning, but allowed an RBI single to Andres Perez and another single to Marte, bringing the winning run to the plate. The Blue Crabs survived as Warden struck out Teahen for his 15th save, securing what became a nerve-wracking victory for the road team, who increased their Liberty Division lead to five games.

The first eight and a half innings were all Southern Maryland, as the Blue Crabs led 9-1 after winning by that same score the night before.

After using a four-run second inning the previous night, it was a six-run outburst in the second on Wednesday that gave the Blue Crabs early control. Jose Salas kicked it off with a leadoff home run to left-center, and with two outs, Renny Osuna cashed in with a three-run homer that caromed off the top of the Arch Nemesis that made it 4-0, his first home run of the year. Cyle Hankerd later added two more runs on a triple to right-center.

Southern Maryland added single runs in the fourth on a two-out single by Wladimir Sutil, in the seventh on a two-out single by Osuna, and in the ninth on a wild pitch.

York got on the board in the fifth with a home run to left-center by Salvador Paniagua, his fourth in eight games and ninth of the year, tying for the team lead.

Paniagua's home run was the only mistake made by Southern Maryland starter Daryl Thompson (6-4) in six innings of work, as he allowed just four hits to win his second straight and fourth in the last five.

York 's Chris Cody (7-3) lost a four-game winning streak, charged with seven runs in three-plus innings. He had allowed just five combined runs on his four-game winning streak.

York 's Rick Zagone (1-0, 1.23) faces Michael Ballard (3-3, 3.40) in Thursday's series finale at 6:30 p.m. The night features a Revolution T-Shirt Giveaway presented by The Law Firm of Dale E. Anstine to the first 1,000 fans. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
