Wild Things Lose First Game Of Series Vs. Traverse City 6-2

Washington, PA--Its not every day you can take your dog to a ball game; 0n Tuesday, the Washington Wild Things (15-12), presented by Washington Financial, invited fans to bring their canine companions to the annual Bark in the Park baseball game at CONSOL ENERGY Park as the Things' fell 6-2 to the Traverse City Beach Bums (17-11).

The Beach Bums tacked on their first run of the evening when third baseman Jose Vargas ripped an RBI double to left, scoring Taylor Wrenn to take an early 1-0 advantage.

Two innings later, first baseman Chase Burch belted his sixth blast of the season, a two-run homer to put the Beach Bums ahead by three.

TC added another run in the fifth when Wrenn, hit his second triple of the game that, in turn, extended his season-high hitting streak to 21 games.

Down by four, Washington made some noise in the seventh with consecutive base hits by designated-hitter Mark Samuelson and first baseman Stewart Ijames. With runners on second and third, courtesy of Traverse City pitcher Jacob Clem's wild pitch, right fielder Gus Benusa hit a clutch one-out RBI single that plated the team's only two runs on the evening.

The Beach Bums added two more runs in the top of the ninth when Wrenn lifted a two-run dinger out of the park to widen TC's lead 6-2.

Gary Lee, the player-pitching coach for Washington, made his sixth start of the season. Although he was handed the loss, Lee went seven innings, allowed four runs on five hits and struck out seven Traverse batters.

Washington plays the second game of the series tomorrow against the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and it is win-win Wednesday. When the Wild Things win, all fans receive a free admission ticket to come back to the ballpark for any Monday or Tuesday game.
