Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.
LAST NIGHT ... Jerad Eickhoff tossed seven shutout innings and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans won their seventh straight game, edging the Carolina Mudcats 3-1 at TicketReturn.com Field. Joe Maloney added an RBI single and Drew Robinson stroked a two-run double as part of a three-run third inning. Ryan Harvey notched his third save of the season.
MAGIC NUMBER = â2' ... The magic number for the Pelicans is two. Any combination of Pelicans wins and Dash losses that equals two would clinch a postseason spot for the Pelicans. The Birds have four scheduled games left which would bring them to 69 first half games. The Dash have three remaining games and would play 70 first half games. If somehow the Pelicans and Dash end up with the same winning percentage, the Pelicans would own the head-to-head having won 4-of-6 head-to-head matchups.
STREAKING ... The Pelicans are in the midst of their second seven-game winning streak of the first half. During the current streak, the Pelicans are averaging 5.57 runs per game and have not allowed more than four runs in any of the games. Heating up - the Pelicans are hitting .273 in their last 10 games.
40-WIN HALF ... The Pelicans need three more wins to reach the 40-win plateau. The most wins the Pelicans have had in a half since Jason Wood took over in 2011 was 40 in the first half of that season. If the Pelicans win out they would finish 41-28.
UP NEXT ... Tonight is a Fiesta Friday - fans can enjoy Abuelo's cuisine at the ballpark all night long. Tomorrow will be an iPad giveaway - the first 1,000 fans will receive an iPad cover presented by Sheriar Press. Father's Day Sunday will feature pregame catch on the field and postgame fireworks.
COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
ON THE AIR ... All 140 Myrtle Beach Pelicans games in 2013 can be heard on Fox Sports Radio on the Grand Strand (AM 1050 and FM 101.9). Video for all 70 home games is available online at www.milb.tv.
