Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-hander Rubby De La Rosa from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-hander Alex Wilson was optioned to Pawtucket after last night's game. De La Rosa will be available for tonight's game against the Orioles in Baltimore and will wear No. 62.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
For De La Rosa, 24, this will be his first big league stint with Boston and his first major league stint of the year. The Dominican native leads PawSox starters with a 3.29 ERA (14 ER/38.1 IP) and a .188 opponent average (25-for-133) this season, going 0-1 with 38 strikeouts and 20 walks in 11 starts. He has a 1.14 ERA (4 ER/31.2 IP) in his last eight outings dating back to April 23 and last pitched on Saturday at Syracuse, allowing one run over a season-high 5.0 innings. In 14 career major league appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2011-12, De La Rosa is 4-5 with a 3.96 ERA (27 ER/61.1 IP) and 60 strikeouts. He was acquired by Boston from the Dodgers last August in the nine-player trade that sent Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Nick Punto, and cash considerations to Los Angeles.
Wilson, 26, was recalled yesterday for his second stint in the majors this year. He allowed one run over the final 2.2 innings of last night's 13-inning game in Baltimore and suffered the walk-off loss. In his 17-game major league career, all with the Red Sox this season, he is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA (6 ER/20.2 IP), 17 strikeouts, and 10 walks. He returns to Pawtucket where he has gone 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA (5 ER/9.0 IP), three walks, and nine strikeouts this season.
