Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo will hold a special tribute to the fallen firefighters from the May 31 Houston fire tragedy at the June 22 home game vs. Toronto FC. The tribute will include moments to honor the fallen firefighters and their families, a fundraiser to benefit the 100 Club Survivors Fund and a commemorative patch on the Dynamo game jerseys.
In addition to the ceremonies, a special ticket package has been developed with proceeds to benefit the 100 Club Survivors Fund. The package includes a commemorative t-shirt and a special post game meet and greet with Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall, whose father is a firefighter.
"A terrible tragedy occurred in our community, and we want to take a moment to pay tribute to those who have been so terribly affected," said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. "Our firefighters are always there responding to the call of duty, and we hope that our small response to this tragedy can illustrate the appreciation and support the soccer community has for them."
The Dynamo will wear jerseys featuring a commemorative patch recognizing the Houston Fire Department. Additionally, the Dynamo will work with the Houston Fire Department to solicit donations at the match. Following the game, proceeds from an auction of the game-worn uniforms will also be a part of the donation.
The Dynamo will also stage a tribute during the match. Firehouse No. 51 and No. 68 were the home stations to the four heroes who gave their lives during the tragedy. In a soccer tradition, during the 51st and 68th minutes of the match, fans in attendance will be encouraged to raise a special "cheer card" in a salute to our fallen heroes.
The special ticket package for this game includes: One ticket, a commemorative t-shirt, a donation to the 100 Club Survivors Fund and a postgame meet and greet with Tally Hall.
