
SCORES Cup returns to Gillette Stadium on Saturday

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - America SCORES Boston and the New England Revolution today announced that the 2013 America SCORES Cup presented by Advent International, which will be played at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, June 15, has sold out. The annual event is expected to generate more than $180,000 in contributions America SCORES Boston, an organization that partners with Boston public schools to provide a high-quality, team-based after-school program that integrates soccer, poetry and service-learning.
"We're very pleased that we're able to be part of this amazing event for another year," Revolution president Brian Bilello said. "SCORES Cup brings Boston's corporate community together at Gillette Stadium to compete in a fun manner that is beneficial to America SCORES Boston. It's enjoyable day that really has an impact on the lives of Boston's children.
"Our organization is proud to be associated with America SCORES and we're very excited for another successful SCORES Cup on Saturday," Bilello continued.
Bilello is a member of the America SCORES Boston board of directors, while Revs head coach Jay Heaps is second vice chair of the organization. Since the tournament moved to Gillette Stadium in 2008, almost three-quarters of a million dollars has been raised for America SCORES Boston.
"Thanks to our partnership with the New England Revolution, the SCORES Cup has grown to become our signature tournament event" John Maconga, America SCORES Boston's Executive Director, said. "Along with the support of our sponsors and players, this event makes it possible for the SCORES Program to reach over 1,000 Boston youth every year."
On Saturday, the 32 teams entered in the SCORES Cup will field co-ed person teams that will compete in the 7v7 small-sided tournament. Teams will then advance to single-elimination playoffs in the afternoon.
America SCORES Boston a non-profit organization that inspires Boston youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students and have confidence and character to make a difference in the world. The organization utilizes Boston Public School teachers to empower youth through the unique combination of athletics, creative writing and service learning. An affiliate of the national America SCORES program currently in 14 major American cities, America SCORES Boston prepares the next generation of students for success throughout their lives, and helps youth realize their full potential as active citizens and leaders of their community.
The SCORES Cup is a philanthropic corporate event that pits local companies and businesses against one another on the soccer field. Thirty-two teams made generous contributions to enter the SCORES Cup and have the opportunity to earn corporate bragging rights in the Southern New England area.
