The Houston Dynamo fell to FC Dallas with a 3-0 defeat in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night at FC Dallas Stadium. Kenny Cooper scored two goals and Michel provided two assists as FC Dallas advanced to the quarterfinals while the Dynamo were eliminated from the competition.

The Texas rivals met for the second time ever in the U.S. Open Cup after the Dynamo secured a 3-0 quarterfinal home win in 2006. FC Dallas reversed the result in its own home game with a three-goal win tonight.

FC Dallas opened the scoring on a set piece in the 37th minute. Michel drove a cross toward the back edge of the six-yard box and Andrew Jacobsen sent the ball back across the face of the goal, where Cooper tapped in from close range for a 1-0 lead.

FC Dallas doubled its lead just before the hour mark. Michel sent a corner kick toward the back post and Cooper headed the cross into the net for his second goal as Michel earned his second assist.

The hosts closed the scoring in the 76th minute. After FC Dallas forward Jackson collided with Houston goalkeeper Tyler Deric at the edge of the penalty area, Zach Loyd collected the ball 30 yards from goal and chipped a shot into the far side of the net for a 3-0 win.

Houston had chances to score but could not find the net. Alex Dixon sent a testing strike from 30 yards late in the first half but FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz made the save. Dixon came close again early in the second half, but his shot toward the near post was deflected for a corner kick.

Later in the second half, Jason Johnson made a strong run through the penalty area, but couldn't keep his shot on the target as it sailed just wide of the near post. Later, Brian Ching tested Seitz with a strong volley from the top of the box, but Seitz dove to tip the effort over the cross bar.

Andrew Driver had two late chances as well. First, his strike from 35 yards stayed over the cross bar. Later, his corner kick nearly found the far side of the net but snuck past the far post.

Dynamo forwards Omar Cummings and Cam Weaver both returned to the field for the first time in a competitive game since April after recovering from injury. Both entered as substitutes in the second half.

It was Bobby Boswell's 200th career start for the Dynamo in all competitions. He is second on the franchise list, trailing Brad Davis (228 starts).

The Dynamo resume MLS play with their third consecutive league road game on Wednesday, June 19 at the Montreal Impact. Houston returns home to host Toronto FC on Saturday, June 22.
