Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (32-28, .533), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, overcame a three-run deficit Saturday and rallied to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 8-4 in 10 innings at Five County Stadium. The Birds trailed 4-1 after five innings but scored the final seven runs in the game, including four in the final inning. With Winston-Salem's win against Wilmington, the Pelicans sit percentage points ahead of the Dash (33-29, .532) heading into play Sunday.

Edwin Garcia sparked a four-run tenth-inning rally with a go-ahead RBI single in extra frames. Grant Sides (2-2) surrendered the hit and took the loss while Ryan Harvey (5-1) kept the game tied in the ninth inning and tallied the final three outs to seal the win for the team and for himself.

Trever Adams drew a walk to start the tenth-inning rally and scored the go ahead run on Garcia's hit. Adams paced the Pelicans, finishing 4-for-4 with three singles and a solo home run. With the Birds down 4-1 in the sixth, Adams clubbed his seventh home run of the season, beginning a string of seven unanswered runs.

Trailing 4-2 in the seventh, the Pelicans struck for two runs on two hits. Garcia started the rally with a double and scored following a double steal and a throwing error from the catcher Tony Wolters. Luis Sardinas, who singled, scored the tying run on an RBI groundout from Patrick Cantwell. The Birds catcher finished with three RBIs, including a two-RBI single in the tenth inning.

The Mudcats drew first blood in the second inning on a two-run single from Charlie Valerio. The ball reached the right field wall but Preston Beck threw out Valerio at second base. Jerrud Sabourin added a sacrifice fly in the second inning to put the Muddies up 3-0.

Joe Maloney stroked a two-out, RBI double in the fourth inning to pull the Pelicans to within 3-1.

Tyler Naquin answered with a solo home run in the fifth inning but it would be the Mudcats final run of the game.

Garcia finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

Jerad Eickhoff started for Myrtle Beach and did not receive a decision, allowing four earned runs on eight hits over six innings.
