San Antonio Missions News Release

The Missions broke out of a prolonged offensive slump Friday night, rolling to an 8-0 victory over the RoughRiders at Wolff Stadium.

San Antonio got the scoring started in the second inning, which began with a Johan Limonta single to center. After Jake Blackwood struck out for the first out of the frame, Everett Williams gave the Missions a 1-0 lead when he drilled an RBI double to deep center. Two batters later, Jeudy Valdez pushed the margin to two with a run-producing ground out.

San Antonio struck again in the fourth, taking a 3-0 lead on an RBI bunt single by Cory Spangenberg, who was making his Double-A debut. Spangenberg, the Padres' seventh ranked prospect entering 2013 according to Baseball America, finished the game 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a steal.

The Missions broke the game open in the seventh with a five-run eruption. Rico Noel started the scoring with an RBI triple to right. It was just the second three-bagger this season for the speedy Noel, with the other coming on April 14 in Springfield. Noel did not stay on third for long as Reymond Fuentes followed with an RBI single into center, making the score 5-0. Yeison Asencio, also making his Double-A debut, kept the rally going with an RBI double to right. Run-scoring hits from Blackwood and Williams capped scoring.

The eight runs were more than enough for winning starter Matt Andriese, who scattered seven hits with one walk, while striking out four in his five and a third scoreless innings. Andriese (7-1) has allowed just two earned runs in 38.1 innings (0.47 ERA) at Wolff Stadium in 2013. The bullpen trio of Chris Rearick, Matt Stites and Matt Lollis completed San Antonio's fourth shutout of the season with three and a third hitless innings.

Kevin McBride (0-2) took the loss for Frisco after allowing three runs on eight hits in four innings of work.

The Missions finished with 13 hits, which included a season-high three from Williams. They scored more runs Friday night than they had in the previous three games combined (7).

San Antonio (32-27) continues their homestand Saturday night with the first of four-games against first-place Corpus Christi (37-23). Josh Geer (2-2, 3.45) will make a spot start for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with Carlos Quevedo (1-4, 4.58). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM with post-game fireworks to follow courtesy of H-E-B.
