Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Quakes dropped their first game of the year when leading after eight innings, as Bakersfield rallied for four runs in the ninth, taking a 9-8 win from Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

At 24-0, the Quakes were perfect when going to the ninth with a lead in 2013. Closer Eric Eadington, who worked a 1-2-3 ninth in Thursday's win for his first save of the year, had no such luck on Saturday. Eadington gave up a pair of homers around a single to tie the game at 8-8, then after a couple of walks, allowed left-handed hitting Juan Perez to rip the game-winner through the hole on the right side to end a long night in Bakersfield.

Steve Selsky, who hit the game-tying homer in the ninth, also hit a two-run blast in the first off of Quakes' starter Gustavo Gomez, giving the Blaze a quick 2-0 lead off Quakes' starter Gustavo Gomez.

The Quakes retaliated quickly though, as Jonathan Garcia struck for his team-leading tenth homer of the year in the second, trimming the deficit to 2-1.

Rancho evened the game in the third, then scored four in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead against Blaze starter Jacob Johnson.

Hanley Ramirez, appearing in his second game of his current rehab assignment, capped the inning with a two-run single up the middle to make it 6-2. Ramirez, who was Saturday's designated hitter, finished the night with just the one hit over four at-bats.

The Quakes added two more in the fifth, with Garcia doubling home O'Koyea Dickson, then scoring on an RBI single by Chris Jacobs, giving them a commanding 8-2 advantage.

It was all Bakersfield from there though, as the Quakes allowed single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth, before the four-run explosion off Eadington (0-2) in the ninth. The single runs in the seventh and eighth respectively, were both unearned, as the Quakes' defense committed three errors over those two innings, racking up four errors on the night.

Blaze reliever Brooks Pinckard (1-3) earned the win, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings.

Rancho (26-29) will look to split the four-game set on Sunday, sending Garrett Gould (1-2) to the mound against Blaze right-hander Jonathan Moscott (1-7). Game time for Sunday's series-finale will be at 11:30am.

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Monday, battling division-rival Inland Empire at 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon...Go Quakes!
