Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Charleston, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws (19-27) continued to struggle against the pitching of the West Virginia Power (26-22) and made seven errors defensively which ultimately drove them to the 11-2 loss, Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. The loss marked the third in a row for the BlueClaws and dropped the squad to 2-3 on the road trip.
The Power was held off the board over the first two innings, but plated five runs in the third inning off of Nic Hanson. The first three West Virginia hitters reached in the inning and the scoring began on Max Moroff's single to right.
Dilson Hererra plated a run on a sacrifice fly and Josh Bell followed with an RBI single to center, to make it 3-1. The final two runs of the inning scored on D.J. Crumlich's double to cap off the scoring.
The onslaught continued in the fourth for the Power. Hanson's (1-1) night ended when Stetson Allie hit a two-run single that put the Power in front 8-1.
In the sixth, the BlueClaws made two more errors, which led to another two-run single for Allie that put the Power up 10-2. They added another on a ball that was booted by Roman Quinn for his third error of the game.
The 'Claws bounced back from an ugly night at the plate, where they struck out 24 times, and scored on a pair of hits in the first. Roman Quinn led of frame with his second triple of the year and was knocked in on Brian Pointer's RBI single.
Lakewood would garner the second and final run in the fifth off of West Virginia's starter Jake Burnette. Angelo Mora led off the inning with a double, was moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a sacrifice fly from Art Charles.
Hanson's night was over after three and two-thirds innings. He allowed all eight runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits; he didn't walk anyone and struck out four.
Burnette did not factor into the decision and lasted only four and two-thirds innings. He allowed the two runs on three hits; he walked three and struck out three on the night.
John Kuchno (2-3) earned the win with four and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief.
