Naturals Unable to Overcome Big Innings

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS- Matt Fields and Rey Navarro each homered, but it wasn't enough to overcome a pair of big innings as the Corpus Christi Hooks defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 10-4 on Thursday night.

Fields' team-leading 11th home run of 2013 gave the Naturals a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With the longball, Fields extends his hitting streak to six games.

Corpus Christi scored three runs in the bottom half of the frame off of Naturals starter Brooks Pounders to give the Hooks a 3-1 lead. Jonathan Meyer hit a two-run home run, while Michael Burgess scored on Enrique Hernandez's two-out single.

The Naturals cut the lead to one in the third. Roman Hernandez led off with a triple and scored on an Alex McClure single. Corpus Christi got the run back in the fourth on a Max Stassi double, and added four runs in the fifth on a single, wild pitch and two-run double.

Fields scored in the seventh inning on a double play, with Navarro's ninth inning home run closing out the scoring for the Naturals. Corpus Christi added two runs in the eighth to complete the scoring.

Navarro and Hernandez each went three-for-four, with Navarro reaching on three singles and Hernandez reaching on a triple and two singles.

Bobby Doran earns his fifth win of the season. Doran allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts in five innings. Nick Tropeano recorded his fifth save, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in four innings.

Pounders is charged with his second loss for the Naturals. Pounders gave up six runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in four innings.

The Naturals and Hooks conclude their three-game series tomorrow night. Jason Adam (0-5, 8.22 ERA) is scheduled to start for Northwest Arkansas. Michael Foltynewicz (0-0, 1.13 ERA) is the scheduled starter for Corpus Christi.
