Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Charleston, W.V. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (19-26) opened up the four game series against the West Virginia Power (25-22) with a 3-2, 12-inning loss Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. The loss sends the 'Claws to 0-3 in extra innings this season.
With the game tied at two in the bottom of the 12th, it was the heart of the Power lineup that produced the game-winning run. With two outs, Josh Bell hit a triple, and Jeb Stefan walked Stetson Allie. Eric Wood followed with the game-winning hit, a single to right that plated Bell.
The opening game of the series began as a pitchers duel. For West Virginia it was Tyler Glasnow that allowed just one baserunner in the first three frames, and recorded the first eight outs of the game, by way of the K. Lakewood's Yoel Mecias matched the Power starter with six strikeouts over the first three scoreless frames.
The game was scoreless and headed to the top of the fourth, where the BlueClaws struck first. With one out, Glasnow walked Brian Pointer in front of the clean up man, Art Charles. The big first baseman got a fastball up and hit it over the wall in right for a home run that put the 'Claws in front 2-0.
The Power began its comeback trail in the fifth. With two down Max Moraff reached on a single and it was Walker Gourley that plated him on an RBI triple and cut the Lakewood lead in half.
In the sixth it was Stetson Allie that tied it with a home run on the first pitch, from the first reliever used by Lakewood, Jordan Guth. The homerun erased Mecias from the decision, and marked the 13th blast of the year for Allie.
Neither starter factored into the decision, but both were outstanding. Glasnow finished five innings and allowed the two runs on two hits, he walked two and struck out 12.
Mecias pitched five innings as well and allowed the one run on seven hits; he walked one and struck out seven.
The win went to the Power's Thomas Harlan (3-1) who delivered one and one-third innings of scoreless relief. Stefan (0-4) allowed the run over an inning and two-thirds and picked up the loss.
For the BlueClaws at the plate, it was a rough night. They managed just four hits and struck out a franchise-high 24 times.
