(Charleston, WV, May 18, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws in 12 innings Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park. With two outs in the 12th, Eric Wood hit a walk-off single to right, scoring Josh Bell.
Lakewood scored the first two runs in the game in the top of the fourth. With one out, Art Charles hit his sixth home run of the season. West Virginia cut the lead in half when Walker Gourley extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI triple, scoring Max Moroff from first.
The Power tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run by Stetson Allie. It was Allie's 13th home run of the season and his fifth since Saturday. In the 12th, Bell hit a two-out triple and scored on Wood's walk-off single.
West Virginia's pitching staff struck out 24 Lakewood hitters, the most in West Virginia Power's history. The 24 strikeouts is also the second most in South Atlantic League history since 1960. Tyler Glasnow led the Power pitching staff with 12 strikeouts over five innings.
Tom Harlan (3-1) received the win for West Virginia by throwing one and one-third innings in relief. Jeb Stefan (0-4) took the loss for Lakewood.
The Power and BlueClaws will continue their four-game series Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Jake Burnette will pitch for West Virginia against Lakewood's Nic Hanson. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
