Lancaster Stormers News Release
Lancaster put together its biggest inning in a month, and rain cut short any opportunity for the Somerset Patriots to make a comeback as the Barnstormers defeated the Patriots, 6-2, Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine.
The game was halted by persistent showers one out into the top of the sixth inning.
Jerry Owens opened the home fourth with a single into the right side hole that deflected off the glove of diving second baseman Jonny Tucker. Olmo Rosario followed with a ground single into left, and the Barnstormers tied the game at 2-2 on Daryle Ward's single to right. Travis Denker contributed Lancaster's fourth consecutive hit, a smash past shortstop for a 3-2 lead. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch from Graham Taylor (2-1) before Ryan Harvey whistled a line drive over the fence in dead center for a three-run homer and the 6-2 lead. Gustavo Molina kept the string going with a single to right before Taylor got a double play to quiet the Lancaster sticks.
Denker had opened the scoring with a fly ball home run just inside the right field foul pole in the bottom of the second. Somerset picked up its only two runs of the night in the fourth on an opposite field homer by Eddy Martinez-Esteve.
Brian Grening (1-2) went the distance for Lancaster, allowing five hits and the two runs. The right-hander walked one, Tucker leading off the game, and struck out five.
The Barnstormers will entertain the red hot Sugar Land Skeeters in a four-game series beginning Friday night at 7:00. Lancaster will send left-hander Lenny DiNardo (2-3) to the hill against fellow lefty Jason Lane (3-0). Fireworks will follow. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.
