DURHAM, NC - Durham Bulls right-hander Alex Colome has been named International League Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 13-19. The 24 year old notched two victories this week and led the league with 19 strikeouts. With Colome's honor, the Bulls become the first IL team to win three weekly awards this season (Vince Belnome, April 22-28; Jake Odorizzi, April 29-May 5).

The Rays' No. 6 prospect entering the season, Colome picked up two victories for the Bulls this week and took over the lead in the International League strikeout race (59). Last Monday against Lehigh Valley, Colome erased a personal five-game losing streak with arguably his best outing of 2013. He recorded season-highs with 7.0 innings pitched and eleven strikeouts as the Bulls coasted to an 8-2 triumph. Colome returned to the mound Saturday and defeated the 1st place Norfolk Tides behind 6.0 innings of two-run baseball. The win improved Colome's record on the season to 3-5.

Colome is in his seventh professional season and first full year at the Triple-A level. In 2012, he was named Most Valuable Player of his Double-A Montgomery team, going 8-3 and posting a 3.48 ERA. He is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and nephew of former Rays and Bulls pitcher Jesus Colome.

The Durham Bulls return home to the DBAP on Monday, May 27 for an eight game homestand featuring visits from the Buffalo Bisons and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Tickets for all home games are available the DBAP box office, by calling 919.956.BULL or at durhambulls.com.
