Frederick Keys News Release
SALEM, VA - Entering the ninth inning on Sunday in Salem, it looked like the Red Sox would complete a three-game sweep of the Keys. The Keys had a different idea in mind. Zane Chavez hit a RBI double to left-center to tie the game at four. Travis Adair brought in the go-ahead run on a RBI infield single. Marcel Prado closed out the game for the Keys as Frederick finished up their six-game road trip, 3-3.
Facing RHP Mike Augliera, the Keys got off to a quick start. With one out in the first, the Keys had four consecutive singles off Augliera but only managed one run in the frame.
Steve Bumbry put Frederick in front by three runs with one swing of the bat in the fourth inning. Bumbry blasted a towering two-run shot to right field off Augliera. Bumbry's team-leading fifth home run of the season put the Keys up 3-0.
LHP Eduardo Rodriguez did not allow a hit through the first three innings on Sunday afternoon but ran into some trouble in the fourth. RF Matty Johnson led off the fourth inning with a double to left-center. After Garin Cecchini was hit by a pitch and Brandon Jacobs flied out to right field, Blake Swihart singled home Johnson to put the Red Sox on the board. Carson Blair tied the game up at three with a two-run single to right field.
The Carolina League's top hitter, Garin Cecchini, gave the Salem Sox the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI single to center field. Sean Coyle scored on the play and the Red Sox led 4-3 after five innings.
Eduardo Rodriguez exited after seven innings of work on the afternoon. Rodriguez allowed four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one.
Christian Walker led off the ninth inning for the Keys. Facing RHP Nate Striz, Walker reached on an infield single. Delvi Cid entered to pinch run for Walker. Zane Chavez tied the game up at four as he crushed a double to left-center field gap. Cid scored from first to tie the game at four. After Allan de San Miguel was hit by a pitch, Johnny Ruettiger advanced Chavez to third and de San Miguel to second on a sacrifice bunt. Striz struck out Brenden Webb for the second out of the inning but Travis Adair put the Keys in front. Adair weakly grounded a ball to the right side of the infield. Striz raced over to field the grounder but slipped on the baseline. Adair raced to first safely and Zane Chavez scored from third to put the Keys in front. Steve Bumbry capped of the three-run frame with a RBI single to right field.
Marcel Prado (2-3) tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth inning and picked up the win on the afternoon. Nate Striz (0-4) got the loss for Salem.
The Keys return home on Tuesday night for the start of a six-game homestand. RHP Tyler Wilson (0-1, 4.40) will take the hill against the Potomac Nationals on Tuesday evening. First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on 1450AM The Source with the Frederick Gorilla Pregame Show.
