New York Boulders News Release
(Newark, NJ) - Chris Edmondson hit his second homer in as many nights and Pat Moran turned in six strong innings to lead the Boulders to a 3-1 victory, spoiling the home opener of the Newark Bears at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Rockland pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts.
Much as was the case 24 hours earlier in the Boulders home opening victory over the Bears, Rockland jumped out front early with the long ball. With one on and one out, Chris Edmondson went yard off starter Brian Parker for his second this season, putting his team up 2-0.
Johnny Welch brought in Danny Bomback with an RBi single in the third to put the visitors up by three, but Newark answered back in the bottom half. With Moran looking strong, Brandon Mims sent an 0-1 offering out of the park for his team's first hit of the evening to trim the margin to 3-1.
It would be a pitchers' duel thereafter, with both Moran and Parker exiting after six innings, having yielded no additional runs. Moran was particularly impressive in his first start of the campaign, scattering three hits and fanning nine while not allowing a walk.
Alex Kreis was strong out of the pen, retiring all five of his outs via strikeout, with Kevin Fuqua working out of a mild jam in the ninth, striking out two and earning his second save in as many nights. Donnie Webb, Chris and Jerod Edmondson had two hits each as Rockland outhit the hosts by a 10-5 count.
The Boulders have now matched the best start in their brief history, having won the first two games in their inaugural 2011 season at Newark, and they will look to establish a new mark when the teams return to Newark for a 7:00 pm start tomorrow night. Both teams currently have their starting pitcher yet to be determined.
