Quebec 11, Trois-Rivieres 3

The 2012 Can-Am League champion Quebec Capitales started defense of their crown with an 11-3 win over newcomer Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Trailing 3-0 after an inning and a half of play, Quebec scored two runs in the second inning and three more in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead and would never trail again in the game. Capitales RF Asif Shah had a monster game at the plate going 4-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and six RBI. Quebec DH Jean-Luc Blaquiere hit a home run and scored three runs in a 2-for-4 game. Capitales reliever Dustin Crenshaw notched the win after pitching five scoreless innings of relief and giving up a walk and three hits.

Rockland 6, Newark 4

The Rockland Boulders are off to a good start to the 2013 campaign as they downed the Newark Bears by the score of 6-4. Rockland LF Chris Edmondson and DH Johnny Welch both hit home runs and combined for three hits, three runs scored and three RBI. Boulders CF Donnie Webb also launched a home run in a 2-for-4 effort. Rockland starting pitcher Bobby Blevins collected the win as he tossed 6 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Boulders reliever Kevin Fuqua gave up a walk and a hit in the ninth inning but held on to get the save.

New Jersey 6, St. Paul 4 (10 Innings)

In interleague play, the New Jersey Jackals scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to defeat the St. Paul Saints of the American Association by a 6-4 final. The 2012 Player of the Year, 3B Nick Giarraputo, had a solid night at the plate going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Jackals CF Chris Curran, DH Yasanberty Arbelo and 1B Chris Duffy collected two hits apiece as well. New Jersey reliever Keith Cantwell, despite allowing the Saints to tie up the game in the ninth inning, picked up the win while David Filak got the save.
