Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, N.C. - The Lynchburg Hillcats swept the Carolina Mudcats in a four-game series with a 7-4 win on Monday night at Five County Stadium. The Mudcats have lost seven straight at home, and drop to 13-24. Lynchburg scored a combined 37 runs on 50 hits for the four-game series.

The Hillcats improved to 20-15 behind a solid start from Navery Moore (3-4). The right-hander held Carolina to two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out a season-high seven batters.

Nick Pasquale (0-1) took the loss in his debut for Carolina. The right-hander, promoted from A-Lake County earlier in the afternoon, allowed five runs on eight hits. He tallied five innings pitched, the longest outing of the season for the reliever turned starter.

The Hillcats' offense continued to mash base hits at a torrid pace. The group clubbed eleven hits, their fourth straight game with double digit knocks against Carolina. Trailing 1-0 entering the second inning thanks to an RBI-double by Jerrud Sabourin, Lynchburg took its first lead on a two-out, two-run single by Elmer Reyes.

Jordan Smith tied the game 2-2 in the third on a double that scored Sabourin.

Lynchburg plated three runs in a pivotal fifth inning to take the lead for good. Reyes singled, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cory Brownsten. Matt Lipka followed with a single to advance Reyes to third. Both runners scored on a double by Emerson Landoni for a 4-2 lead. A balk against Pasquale scored Landoni from third later in the inning.

Three hits off reliever Francisco Jimenez, and an error, allowed the Hillcats to score two more in the seventh.

Trailing 7-2, the Mudcats got a run back in the eighth when Francisco Lindor doubled, and scored when Smith smashed his second two-bagger down the first base line.

The Mudcats made one final push in the ninth against reliever John Cornely. Zac MacPhee soared a blast over the right field wall for his second home run of the year, and cut the lead to four with one out. After Yhoxian Medina was retired on strikes, Tyler Naquin and Lindor singled to bring the tying run up. Already with three hits, Sabourin was called out on strikes to end the game.

Carolina begins a three-game series at home with the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday night, May 14th. It's another "Dollar Dog Days" presented by Carolina Packers with first pitch at 7:15 p.m. Purchase tickets today by calling (919) 269-2287, or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
