Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC--The Kannapolis Intimidators outslugged the Asheville Tourists 10-7 in Sunday afternoon's series finale. The game featured a total of 29 hits and four errors in front of 1,797 fans at McCormick Field.

The offense was quiet in the first two innings, but Kannapolis broke out with a run in the top of the third. Jason Coats doubled home Micah Johnson to give the I's a 1-0 lead. Asheville answered with a run in the bottom half on Rosell Herrera's RBI single that plated Jose Rivera.

Both teams scored three runs in the fourth inning. The Intimidators picked up a two-run double from Justin Jirschele and Johnson hit an RBI single as well. The Tourists three runs all came on Dillon Thomas' Home Run to right.

With the game tied 4-4 heading to the fifth, the visitors again plated three runs. Coats hit a solo Home Run and Kyle Robinson connected with an RBI double. Coats was also part of an eighth inning rally that netted three more runs. Robinson added another RBI along with Zach Fisher.

Heading to the bottom of the ninth, the Tourists trailed 10-4; however, they still had some fight left. Three consecutive doubles to start off the frame made things interesting and with the bases loaded, Tom Murphy hit an infield single to bring the winning run to the plate. Francisco Sosa would come up empty against Adam Lopez; as the T's centerfielder struck out to end the game. Thomas finished with five RBI's for the home team, but Coats paced the I's by going 4-for-5 with 3 RBI's. Zach Isler worked 4.2 innings in relief and surrendered only one base hit.

The Tourists continue their homestand on Monday night in the season's first meeting with the Greenville Drive. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
